Review: Sputino, Soho
The Sunday of a bank holiday weekend, the start of my weekend, and the desire to go somewhere low-key with extremely tasty food and decent wine. We thought we’d try Sputino for my preferred meal of the day, a late lunch. more >

Review: Zin Sushi, Greenwich
I’ve just been to lunch at Zin on a recommendation from one of the waiters at an event we worked last night. It’s about 5 minutes walk from my house, I pass it every day, but have never been lured in as it’s not very smart, the windows are busy so you can’t see what lays inside, and I’ve never been very intrepid. more >

Review: Hare & Tortoise, Bloomsbury, London
Whenever I want a stuff-myself-silly food blow-out I head to the Hare and Tortoise for amazing Japanese food. Normally I would associate Japanese food with lighter, cleaner flavours but at the Hare and Tortoise the portions are generous, the flavours are tongue-tingling and the prices are very reasonable. Right up my street.

The Fat Duck, Bray
A year in the planning, a two month advance booking and two 30th birthday’s to celebrate, needless to say this was a meal I was incredibly excited about. And was I disappointed… nah! more >

Piccolino Heddon St – Pah!
Saturday night, central London, sensible budget, left it too late to book the recommended Clos Maggiore. We ended up at Piccolino, on Heddon Street, but I wasn’t too worried as had spotted some nice sounding dishes on the menu and I was dining with some of my favourite people. What happened next? more >

Book Review: Bill Granger, Feed Me Now!
Bill Granger seems to have made the UK his second home, regularly doing the rounds of our cookery shows, but his books are purely inspired by his native Australia, with shiny, sunny recipes which make you smile, almost as wide as he does. Feed Me Now expands on this theme, with recipes placed into baskets such as ‘rise & shine’ and ‘the dinner dash’… more >

Guilty Pleasures – Bodeans BBQ
Don’t get my wrong, I love fine dining (see Maze review if you need any proof), but there comes a time when the call of smokey hickory or chipotle sauce just gets too strong to resist. At those moments, unless I have a handy return ticket to New Orleans in my possession, I head to a branch of Bodeans. more >

Book Review: Rick Stein’s Far Eastern Odyssey
You may have caught the TV series of Rick Stein’s Far Eastern Odyssey last summer, and you may also have been as inspired as I was to cook traditional south east Asian food – if so, get the book that accompanies the series, it’s excellent. more >

Definitely club class… the brilliant ‘flight’ lunch at Maze
Last week I was treated to a late birthday meal at the Gordon Ramsey’s (or more Jason Atherton’s) Maze in Mayfair, London. I’d wanted to go for an age, but was looking after the coffers. However, now we’re in the financial doldrums of early 2010, lots of London’s finest restaurants are offering excellent lunch and evening set meal deals which give you access to fine dining with costs little higher than a boozy lunch at Strada. more >
