Winter warming, French onion & brandy soup
This was developed by my good friend Sarah, invented one ‘is the summer over?’ Sunday afternoon, when a surplus of onions from the veg box had been discovered in the kitchen. You can put it on to cook slowly, go watch a film (popping back to give it the odd stir), then eat and enjoy! more >

Recipe – by popular request – Fish cakes with anchovy dressing
I made this for a buffet event last week and was amazed how well they went down, whizzing off the platters ahead of a crowd-pleasing chicken dish. I think the key is to make them fairly small (easy to shallow fry to golden) and serve the dressing slightly warm. more >

REVIEW: Paternoster Chop House – So much promise, so much attitude
I’ve eaten here before, but only to grab a quick snackwich on a lunchtime, eaten outside on the burstingly busy terrace, so when some friends and I were casting around St Pauls for a mid-week supper venue, I thought this would offer a safe pair of hands. more >

REVIEW: The Bell, Sapperton: Genius in the Cotswolds
Unfortunately in this cynical age it takes more and more to impress us, and a pub which has the word ‘gastro’ attached to it in anyway is swimming against a tide of mediocrity built up by a swathe of establishments which deliver perfectly edible, but essentially a little bit forgettable, food. The Bell, in the gob-smackingly idyllic Cotswolds village of Sapperton, shatters my cynicism and rebuilds me as someone who will now be filled with boundless hope when approaching a well-tended country pub. It really was that good. more >

Thank you Antonio Carluccio – GJ now loves GNOCCHI
Recipe: Spinach gnocchi with tomato sauce & buffalo mozzarella. I have ordered gnocchi a few times before, but am usually left feeling really podged out. These light little gnocchi, with a very simple sauce, are easy enough to tackle on a week night with ingredients readily found in the store cupboard. more >

What would Jenny do…?
I can’t remember who gave me this idea, so if it was you, please remind me! I get lots of questions on jobs or from friends and family asking me why their recipe hasn’t worked, what they should have for their dinner, or for a new idea for ‘insert ingredient of choice’. more >

Tiger prawns & chorizo with chermoula & cumin bread
This makes a great starter or light lunch, and can also be used as part of a table of tapas dishes. Using fresh, unpeeled prawns is vital to give flavour to the chermoula in this dish, but there are many variations of chermoula, more >
